Inspired By: Fashion Films

Of Fashion and Fiction

One of the most exciting new trends taking off in the world of short film is the rise of the "Fashion Film" – creative short stories by clothing companies and brands showing off their work in a way that doesn’t feel like it’s necessarily trying to sell you something. It’s the anti-commercial, a demo reel for young designers, and a great alternative to print campaigns or runway shows if you’re working with limited resources.

I am in love with this idea. Young artists from the film and fashion realm collaborating and creating a new kind of short; blending advertising and entertainment - and making something that can be easily shared online. It helps give short films a new purpose, and gives new opportunities for aspiring filmmakers to get their name out there. Everybody wins!

One of my favorites is a short by Jessy Moussallem. The idea is simple, a choreographed dance by two women, changing outfits and locations seamlessly throughout.
