Facebook Video is Leading Online Marketing

As noted in our last video marketing rewind, the 2nd quarter of 2016 saw a huge spike in video content and viewership online.  In the 3rd quarter, we saw this number go up even higher by a staggering amount.  Why and how has this happened?  This is in part due to the social media superpower Facebook and their support of 360 video, Facebook Live, and easy to use video advertising campaign builder. 

Facebook’s support of vertical video also made advertisers and marketers revalue such mobile platforms as Snapchat and Instagram.  Although YouTube has consistently increased viewership year to year, Facebook is making a strong push for the throne with their cheap, effective and easy to use advertising capabilities.

More important than the advances in video technology is Facebook’s access to information.  With Facebook’s comprehensive ad targeting and campaign analytics readily available, I predict that a large number of marketers will begin to shift their ad budget from TV to Facebook if they haven’t done so already.  Especially when you take into consideration how much cheaper it is to advertise on Facebook compared to the traditional television broadcast.

As video technologies move forward at an exciting pace, it is interesting to see what Facebook, as well as other platforms, come up with next.

Let’s take the time to quickly evaluate your video marketing strategy so far this year:

  1. Look at what your competitors are doing with video.  How many do they have and on what platforms?  Take note of the length of each video.  Where would you place each of their video’s in your marketing funnel?
  2. Where are your videos?  Are they hosted on the appropriate channels?
  3. Time to look at the metrics.  Are you utilizing your analytical tools to grow your audience and convert them? 
  4. Have you stuck to your plan?  What worked and what can be improved?

4th Quarter Fast Forward

Slow 3rd quarter?  Your end of the year marketing strategy starts now!

Here are 4 tips to jump start your strategy:

  1. Go mobile.  Don’t miss out on potential clients or customers because your site isn’t mobile friendly.  If your website isn’t working properly it is like keeping your doors locked while you are open for business.
  2. Go social.  With the aforementioned huge increase in video viewership over each social platform, get on social media.  It’s still free to create an account...  FREE!  If you are already on social media, is your branding consistent and good quality?  Are you on social media sites that are appropriate for your business?
  3. Be festive.  Planning to incorporate seasonal designs and decorations into your brand makes you look more professional and ahead of the curve.
  4. Start NOW!  With the holiday season rapidly approaching, now is the time to start planning your strategy.  We all tend to forget how busy November and December become between the holidays... Don’t be caught saying, “I guess we will have to put this off until next year.”
